Vernacular Type
This is a 24-page mini booklet listing all the different types of typography on a main street. I chose Alameda Park Street because I grew up around here. I know a lot about the history and my goal is to have people appreciate it. The book consists of photographs of different typography on the main street. The pages are categorized between different typefaces and materials.
Additionally, there are two A3-sized posters to advertise the main street’s book launch. The two posters are alternate type styles: axial and grid. For the axial type, I chose the iconic Alameda theatre sign to be the centerpiece because it works with this style the best. For the grid, I used the front of a children’s wooden car because of the shape.

Scheme
I choose Park Street because of its Broadway-like history and architecture. The goal for this book was to take images, photoshop them, then turn them into a gray duotone. I chose red and green for the color scheme. Park Street’s street color is green. This includes street signs, light poles, and public utilities. Red is a complementary color to green, so they fit well together.
This street fits the vibe of the rustic old look. Park Street is known for preserving its architecture from the roaring 20s. The nightlife there is vibrant. It is hard to miss all the bright signs because they are mostly made of vintage style neon lights.

Sketches along the way…
Before organizing the page sketches, I went to Park Street and took a lot of photos of different types and logos. It made me really appreciate all the types because it is saturated everywhere we go. It is really easy to miss, but it is helpful for guidance. I was able to take 600 photos of different things.
For the advertisement posters for axial and grid type, I was able to jot down different ideas. Initially, it was just lines to visualize placement. The more I narrowed down the sketches, the more detail it was to help me visualize the final posters.
